OpenOffice 3 Setup Linux, Windows and Mac
The opening screen is a recognition that the software is an Open Source product form Sun Microsystems.
OpenOffice is the open source product of Sun Microsystems “StarOffice”. Open source means that users may modify the program if they need to because they have access to the source code and the program is free for download.
This will transfer any information that you had set on a previous version of OpenOffice.
If this is a first time install you can also add the default information that you may like to use. This can all be changed later.
The online update is nice in that you will be notified of updates. However, this will constantly check and as a result use bandwidth to make those checks. Your firewall may also be stopping it from checking in some cases.
Registration may seem like a strange thing for an open source application, but the purpose is to communicate with users about the product in the future. You do have the option to choose not to register, with no consequences.
At this point the OpenOffice program will appear. This window provides a way to start with any of the OpenOffice products including writer, draw, calc, impress, etc.
